Conservation Area & Nature Tourism Park Pananjung Pangandaran is part of a Natural Conservation Area which has the function of protecting life support systems, preserving the diversity of plant and animal species, and the sustainable use of biological natural resources and their ecosystems. Pananjung Pangandaran TWA previously had the status of Pananjung Pangandaran Nature Reserve (CA) then based on the Decree of the Minister of Agriculture Number 170/Kpts/Um/1978 dated March 10, 1978, the area changed its function to Pananjung Pangandaran TWA with an area of 37.7 Ha and has been determined based on the Letter Decree of the Minister of Forestry Number SK.484/Menhut-II/2010 dated 30 August 2010 concerning the Designation of Pananjung Pangandaran Conservation Area with an area of 454.615 Ha and Nature Tourism Park with an area of 34.321 Ha.

Based on the results of the preparation of the Pananjung Pangandaran TWA block structuring document on the basis of considerations for the preservation of biological natural resources and their ecosystems, regional spatial planning and socio-economic aspects of the community, the distribution/arrangement of blocks in the Pananjung Pangandaran TWA area is divided into 2 blocks, namely; the Protection block covering an area of 11.201 Ha (32.64%) of the area and the Utilization block covering an area of 23.120 Ha (67.36%) of the area.
